Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can was full of admiration for his side after their 3-0 triumph over Union Berlin, underlining the effort, discipline, and mental toughness required to secure the victory.
“Respect to our team,” Can said. “We’ve often been rightfully criticized, but today I’m incredibly proud of my squad. We did brilliantly under difficult conditions. That’s not easy to achieve.”
Can also addressed some moments of controversy during the match, particularly regarding the officiating. “I found it a bit one-sided from the referee’s side, with all due respect, of course. Union should probably have seen a few yellow cards here and there,” he said.
He further reflected on Dortmund’s approach to different types of matches and the scrutiny the team faces. “We play good football, don’t always get points, then play a normal game and get the points - but according to the press, we never do everything right. Today, as I said, a huge compliment to the team. This was men’s football, and we mastered it.”
Can’s comments underline both the physical and mental demands of the match while highlighting the cohesion and leadership within the Dortmund squad, who now look to carry that form forward in the Bundesliga title race.
