In an interview with Goal and Spox, the French centre-back has now opened up on his first few months as a Bayern player.

"Honestly, it feels very good. I was given a great reception. My coaches and teammates showed me right away how everything works.

"It's never easy at the beginning at a new club. But I knew the coach, and that was an advantage. He has implemented a lot of the things we did in Leipzig – only better. That made it easy."

Upamecano was also asked to explain Bayern's embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Gladbach in the DFB-Pokal last month.

"That was bad and I want to apologize to the fans for that. Something like that must not happen again. We failed there and simply weren't present in the game. That goes for me as well as for the rest of the team," said the defender.

"My approach is that you have to learn from your own mistakes, and that's what we did against Union Berlin and Benfica afterwards. That was the right reaction. Gladbach must remain an accident."
