Uli Hoeness will not stand for re-election as Bayern München president at the club's general meeting in November, the German champions have confirmed.

But the 67-year-old will remain a member of the board 'for the duration of his appointment through November 2023,' the statement reads.

Herbert Hainer, who has been recommended by Hoeness himself, is expected to take over the position after he was unanimously backed by the Bayern board.

Hoeness, a former Bayern München player, was appointed commercial/general manager of the club in 1979. 30 years later, in November 2009, he was elected president of Bayern München.

Hoeness was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for tax evasion in March 2014 which led him to resign from his role as president. His prisonment ended at the end of February 2016.

After serving his sentence, Hoeness was re-elected president of the Bavarian club at the end of November 2016.
