Kingsley Coman's wage demands likened to Alaba's contract scenario

Kingsley Coman’s Bayern Munich career looks to be in a haze of doubt as he looks to follow the path of Real Madrid-bound David Alaba out of Munich.

Most recently, Manchester giants City & United were linked to a move for the Frenchman and the reports now look likely to materialize as Bayern are struggling to meet the 24-year-old attacker's wage demands.

A significant pay-rise to about €12m net is reportedly being demanded by Coman, a couple million below the rate that Alaba once stood ground on.

The French attacking midfielder also recently jumped ship to on-board the services of Pini Zahavi, the well-known Israeli football agent who played a key role in the breakdown of Alaba’s negotiation talks with the Bayern management.

Uli Hoeneß famously referred Zahavi as a ‘piranha’ last year in the midst of Alaba’s contract extension talks, pointing out the agent’s appetite for an increase in payout.

As per a Sport1 exclusive, when questioned about Bayern’s stance on talks with Coman, Hoeneß said: “I can only point out that the player still has a two-year contract. We will see everything else. Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic will fix that. They have the support of the supervisory board with Herbert Hainer. We also managed the Alaba affair well together.”

“We were simply not ready to pay the price asked for him. This will also be the case in the future: If prices are called that cannot be displayed, then there will be no contract extension with FC Bayern. I have the feeling that the business aspects are not sufficiently taken into account by some journalists,” he said, adding to his comments on Alaba.

The Bayern Munich executive also pointed out the financial health of several top European clubs who are struggling.

He said: "Look what has become of some of the big clubs around the world. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus."

Future Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn added to Hoeneß’ comments: “...they always continued to pay these salaries. Now they face significant problems. I don't want to experience that with Bayern Munich. Here at the club, we have our clear ideas about economic issues. That is why I am extremely relaxed about negotiations with Zahavi.”

Coman's contract in Bavaria expires in 2023 and with two more years on his contract deal, he could fetch a handsome transfer sum of around €60m for Bayern.

He certainly is not short of suitors with Manchester City, Manchester United, and now Chelsea are also said to be interested in him.
