Following his return from a loan spell at Tottenham, it was widely reported that Timo Werner no longer had a future at RB Leipzig.

However, with the transfer window now closed in most countries, the 29-year-old remains at the club, and sporting managing director Marcel Schäfer is not ruling out Werner playing for Leipzig again.

"We operate solely on the principle of performance," Schäfer told Bild, adding:

"I don't know of any coach in the world who wouldn't field the best players in training."

Werner, who has one year left on his Leipzig contract, was omitted from the squad for their first three competitive games of the season.
