FC Augsburg’s Arne Maier has been handed down a two-game suspension by the DFB Sport’s Court, the club has announced.

The 26-year-old midfielder was brandished with a straight red card when he caught VfL Bochum’s Bernardo last Saturday.

Match official Martin Petersen originally issued a yellow card for the foul, but a VAR review upgraded the punishment in the 80th-minute.

Head coach Jess Thorup will be without Maier for their upcoming Bundesliga games against Eintracht Frankfurt (April 20) and Bayer Leverkusen (April 26).

A return to the starting eleven can come in May as Die Fuggerstadters face Holstein Kiel.
