2. Bundesliga: Bochum edge closer to safety as Kwarteng’s late equalizer ruins Bielefeld’s party

Moritz-Broni Kwarteng’s first goal of the season saved Bochum from a defeat to Arminia Bielefeld, who were celebrating the 100th-year anniversary of Schüco Arena with a special kit. Uwe Rösler’s side took a huge step to safety with the late draw that helped them reach the 40-point mark.

Christopher Lenz’s foul on Robin Knoche was costly for both the player and Bochum around the half-hour mark. Lenz saw his 10th yellow card of the season, which will keep him out of the game against Hannover, while Joel Grodowski reached double digits for all the right reasons from the resulting penalty-kick.

The 28-year-old striker scored half of his goals from 12 yards. Bielefeld had no one to blame except themselves for dropping precious points as Bochum found the equalizer from a counter-attacking move ten minutes before the end.

A late red card for Mitch Kniat means Bielefeld will play next week’s big game against Kaiserslautern without their head coach. If results go against them in the remaining matchday 32 fixtures, they could start that game in 16th place. Meanwhile, there is a possibility for Bochum to already secure safety tomorrow.
