Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign highly rated Ecuadorian defender Virgilio Olaya, with the transfer set to be completed during the January transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bundesliga giants have agreed terms with SD Aucas for the 17-year-old centre-back. Olaya is expected to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal that will come into effect once he turns 18 in February.
The move has been widely reported as close in South America for several weeks, but Bayern were required to resolve several formalities before finalising the deal. Most notably, the young defender does not celebrate his 18th birthday until February third - a key requirement for a transfer to Europe.
Olaya is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Ecuador and has already attracted attention for his composure and physical presence at a young age.
A loan move is under consideration following his move to Bavaria.
