Bayern stunned at home: Kimmich admits team “too far from top level”

After a surprising defeat against Augsburg, Bayern's captain on the day Joshua Kimmich was candid about his team’s performance, emphasizing the need to hit top form in every match.

Bayern Munich’s 1‑2 defeat to FC Augsburg left the Allianz Arena stunned, and captain Joshua Kimmich spoke openly after the game:

“I felt that we didn’t manage to dominate the game for 90 minutes,” Kimmich said. “We had no sustained pressure phases, no real abundance of chances. The defeat wasn’t really deserved, but neither would a win have been - Augsburg defended bravely and were ruthless when it counted. It wasn’t as if they created many chances, they just were there at the decisive moments.”

Reflecting on Bayern’s performances this year, Kimmich emphasized the need for consistency at the highest level. “We started spectacularly with great results this year, but we know we have to show top-level performance in every game. Many people think a home match against Augsburg is an easy win, but you always have to perform at the highest level.”

He also noted the physical demands of modern football: “It’s hard to deliver top form every three days. In the past, we managed it well, and in the future we will too, but today we were just a little too far from that top level to get more from the game.”
