Bayern wonderkid torn between Germany and Austria

Highly-rated Bayern Munich youngster Paul Wanner still doesn't know whether he'll play for Germany or Austria.

Bayern Munich prodigy Paul Wanner, who is eligible to play for both Germany and Austria, has yet to decide which country he will represent in the future.

"The Austrian Football Association has made a great effort, and I had good talks with coach Ralf Rangnick and his assistant Lars Kornetka. I really appreciate that," said Wanner, who will spend the 2024/25 season on loan at Heidenheim, in an interview with Sport Bild.

“In the meantime, the German Football Association is also making an effort, it just took a little longer. Since [Germany U-20 coach] Hannes Wolf took over responsibility for me at the DFB, there's been a lot more contact, and I've also been in touch with Julian Nagelsmann,” Wanner added.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has represented Germany at U17, U18 and U-0 level.

Wanner last featured for Germany's U20 side in March, when he came off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over France.
