Confirmed: Kownacki returns to Düsseldorf on loan with purchase option

The loan-out of SV Werder Bremen striker Dawid Kownacki back to his old club of Fortuna Düsseldorf has been officially confirmed.

After all parties involved unofficially confirmed the deal on Sunday, German second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf officially unveiled their former striker Dawid Kownacki as a new signing early Tuesday afternoon. The 27-year-old remains under contract with the top flight Hanseatic city-state side through 2027, but will represent the Flingeraner on a one-year loan-deal. German footballing media sources reporting on the deal continue to claim that the F95 have secured a €2.5 million purchase option.

Fortuna - having already secured the services of Wolfsburg's Dzenan Pejcinovic - have now taken two strikers from top tier sides on loan for the current season. Werder themselves might have had some use for Kownacki after a solid training camp from the Pole, yet were more taken by the emergence of Germany U20 international Keke Tope during the preparation phase ahead of the coming campaign. Topp scored a hat trick in his competitive debut for Bremen yesterday.

“Dawid's time at Werder has so far been different to what we and Dawid had envisioned," Werder personnel chief Peter Niemeyer noted in a club statement, "It's now important for him to get back to playing and to regain his form at a high level. We are convinced that these conditions are in place in Düsseldorf and wish Dawid all the best for the coming months."
