After working his way back from an injury, Aaron Anselmino has started the last two games for Borussia Dortmund, pushing captain Emre Can to the bench.

Most recently, the young centre-back played a key role in Dortmund's 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen, scoring the first goal of the game.

Anselmino’s loan from Chelsea runs until the end of the season, but BVB, who do not hold a purchase option, are eager to keep him beyond that.

"Of course, we hope that Aarón stays longer," said Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl in the mixed zone on Saturday evening.

"I’ll certainly have to pick up the phone in the next few days and call [Chelsea]. We have a pretty good relationship," he added.

If a permanent transfer isn’t possible, extending the loan could be an alternative.

Anselmino joined Chelsea from Boca Juniors last year and is contracted to the London club until 2031.
