The 29-year-old supposedly opted to stay in the Ruhrpott rather than leave for Saudi Arabia.

According to Sky Germany's sources, Serhou Guirassy received several inquiries from Saudi Arabia - especially Al Hilal.

Sky journalist Patrick Berger notes that the club from Riyadh pushed hard to sign him and offered big money.

However, Guirassy is believed to have turned down the offer, instead preferring to stay with Die Schwarzgelben and fight for titles.

Looking for an instant replacement in their plans, Liverpool's Darwin Núñez is on his way to Al Hilal instead.

Guirassy, who scored 34 goals in 44 games across all competitions last season, has just been nominated for the Ballon D'Or.
