When Julian Brandt came on as a substitute in the 58th minute of Borussia Dortmund’s final Club World Cup group game against Ulsan HD on Wednesday, he was wearing a brace on his left arm.

Speaking to reporters after the 1-0 victory, the attacking midfielder revealed that he suffered a scaphoid fracture in his left wrist in Borussia Dortmund's opener against Fluminense.

“I broke my wrist in the tenth minute against Fluminense,” Brandt said following the match in Cincinnati.

"I slipped and just landed badly."

    Coach Niko Kovac added:

“He will definitely have to play and train with it (the brace) for the next three months.”

It remains unclear whether Brandt will require surgery. After returning to the team’s camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he will undergo further examinations.

“We will see if anything has shifted. I hope not, because that would lead to surgery,” Kovac said.

Brandt, however, downplayed the injury’s seriousness.

“It’s worse than it looks. It’s just a nasty spot because it doesn’t heal well there," he insisted.
