Assan Ouedraogo made the headlines last week, as his debut goal for Germany was followed by a stunning long-range strike in RB Leipzig’s 2-0 win over Werder Bremen.

However, RB Leipzig confirmed on Tuesday that the 19-year-old central midfielder will now be forced to take a break after suffering a tendon injury in his knee during the match against Werder.

Medical examinations on Monday confirmed the diagnosis, with Ouedraogo expected to be out for several weeks.

“It is incredibly unfortunate that Assan is sidelined, especially now,” said RB Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer.

“He was on a very good path, had made great progress in recent weeks, and has become a German international. This injury is all the more bitter for him and for us as a team. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Assan for a speedy and full recovery.”

According to Sky Germany, Ouedraogo will likely be sidelined for five to seven weeks.

RB Leipzig also confirmed that Yan Diomandé sustained a nasal fracture in the same game.

The young winger will train and play with a custom protective mask in the coming period.
