De Ligt faces lengthy layoff with knee injury

Matthjs de Ligt will be sidelined for four to six weeks after suffering a knee injury on Wednesday, according to Bild.
Wednesday night was undoubtedly bitter for Bayern Munich, not only because they were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by 3. Liga side Saarbrücken, but also because Matthijs de Ligt went off with an injury.

According to Bild, the Dutch centre-back is now expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks.

The German tabloid reports that de Ligt has suffered an injury to the inner ligament in his knee, with the capsule also said to be affected. De Ligt had just returned from an identical injury.

"It's the same knee again, the same capsule. It's very painful," confirmed Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel after last night's defeat.

According to Bild, de Ligt's injury has made Bayern reconsider the idea of signing Jerome Boateng on a free transfer to bolster their vulnerable defense.
