André Schürrle and Borussia Dortmund have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, the club have announced.

The 29-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Spartak Moscow, had one year left on his deal with 'Die Schwarzgelben'.

"On reflection, it was a period with highs and lows – but also with many valuable experiences both on a sporting and, in particular, on a personal level. I would like to thank those responsible at BVB and wish the club and its special fans all the best for the future," said Schürrle in a statement.

Dortmund paid €30 million to sign Schürrle from VfL Wolfsburg in 2016. He made a total of 51 appearances for BVB, racking up eight goals and 10 assists.
