Robert Lewandowski says he believes Bayern München teammate Joshua Kimmich is capable of becoming the world's best player.

Lewandowski became the first Bundesliga player to be named Best FIFA Men's Player when he was crowned with the award in 2020.

Meanwhile, Lothar Matthäus remains the only German to have won the prize, having received the honor in 1991 when he was playing for Inter.

Asked who could become the second German player to clinch the award, Lewandowski told Sport Bild:

"With regard to the young players, definitely Joshua Kimmich. I trust 'Jo' to do so.

"There are many talented young players in Germany. It's entirely in their hands what they make of their talent - but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them. It would be a great thing for Germany, too."

Kimmich, 25, has made 14 appearances for Bayern this season, racking up four goals and nine assists.
