VfL Wolfsburg managing director for sport Jörg Schmadtke says he 'assumes' that Maxence Lacroix will stay beyond the summer despite continuous speculation over the centre-back's future.

According to reports, RB Leipzig have had two bids for Lacroix turned down by Wolfsburg, who remain hopeful of keeping the 21-year-old.

The fact that 'Die Wölfe' recently brought in a new centre-back in the shape of Sebastiaan Bornauw doesn't necessarily mean that Lacroix will be on the move, according to Schmadtke.

"It's important that we now have more alternatives," Schmadtke explained in an interview with Kicker.

Asked if Lacroix will stay, the Wolfsbrug chief told Kicker:

"I assume so."
