"Too often it's thought that the Bundesliga is easy - it's not!" - FCB coach Vincent Kompany after the defeat against FC Augsburg

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany faced the media after a surprising 2–1 defeat to FC Augsburg, a result that snapped Bayern’s unbeaten run in the Bundesliga. Despite the shock scoreline, Kompany stressed that the team’s performance was solid, even if it didn’t produce the desired result.
“This result is for the people who always knew that the Bundesliga is not easy, and that every game is risky,” Kompany said. “We were stable in the first half, without a lot of creativity. It was a game where you say: okay, we played five games in 13 days - maybe we get a result today without a spectacular performance. I’m more disappointed with the result than with the performance. We were in a good position and we gave it away. We couldn’t bring the same energy as in the past games in the second half. Congratulations to Augsburg. It’s part of football. Now it’s about showing a reaction.”
The loss also ended Bayern’s hopes of an “invincible” season, but Kompany played down the significance of that milestone. “Not really. If we go another 10 months unbeaten then everything’s fine for me. I want to achieve a lot with this club and in my career as a coach, but for me personally this would be an achievement for the boys. I just want to support them. I don’t want to sound philosophical, but these really are my thoughts. I can live without this invincible season if we continue to win titles and be successful.”
Kompany also addressed Bayern’s injury challenges, which have seen key players miss games during a hectic schedule. “When you have seven games in 20 days, then each player who is out for a week will miss three games. And then when he comes back, he needs time to get to full fitness. It’s not an excuse, I’d like to have everyone fit, but there are no long-term injuries. We shouldn’t look for excuses. We should fight as we always did and get results despite the situation.”
Despite the disappointment, Kompany’s message remained one of pragmatism and focus. Bayern must now regroup quickly as the Bundesliga title race heats up a little, taking lessons from Augsburg’s resilience and planning for the next challenges.
