The first 25 minutes of the game showed why both teams are winless in the last three matchdays. However, the hosts suddenly hit the ground running with two goals in the space of three minutes.
Julian Justvan scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, putting Nürnberg two goals ahead against their closest rivals in the standings. Adriano Grimaldi played a big part both times, including his assist for the ferocious shot by Justvan for the second goal.
Justin Von Der Hitz came close to scoring on his debut, but it was Mohamed Ali Zoma who succeeded in scoring Nürnberg’s third before the half-time break. On his first start since joining the club from Strasbourg, Rabby Nzingoula puts it on the plate for the in-form attacker.
Miroslav Klose’s troops didn’t have to wait long to extend their lead after the break as Zoma was once again on target from Nzingoula’s assist. Marvin Wanitzek pulled one back for the visitors before the hour mark, but Zoma completed his hat-trick with his eighth goal of the season after a brilliant delivery from Berkay Yilmaz.
Nürnberg momentarily climbed to eighth place with their biggest win of the season coinciding with the first game since Klose’s renewal. It’s also the first time Karlsruhe conceded five goals this season as they now lost back-to-back games away from home.
