After two years at BayArena, Granit Xhaka's time at Bayer 04 Leverkusen has come to an end.

Die Werkself confirmed on Wednesday that the Swiss midfielder has moved to newly-promoted Premier League side Sunderland on a permanent basis.

Sunderland have paid a reported fee of around €20 million for the 32-year-old.

“Granit Xhaka was a key figure in the Leverkusen team that won the league and cup double in 2024 after joining us two years ago,” said Bayer 04 sporting CEO Simon Rolfes.

“Given the terms and circumstances of the deal, granting his request to leave is the best solution for Bayer 04 and all parties involved. We wish Granit all the best for the next chapter of his career.”

Xhaka featured a total of 99 times for Leverkusen with six goals and nine assists to his name.
