A move back to Portugal could be on the cards for Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha.

According to Record and DAZN Portugal, Benfica are preparing an opening bid worth €25 million for the defensive midfielder.

DAZN Portugal reports that the proposal would consist of €20 million up front plus €5 million in bonuses.

A possible alternative option, according to Record, is a loan deal with a €10 million loan fee and a mandatory purchase clause worth €15 million.

Palhinha spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, who opted not to activate their €30 million purchase option.

Alongside Benfica, Sporting CP have also shown interest in the Portugal international. However, their interest seems to have cooled due to the player's wage demands.
