Christian Kofane has declined a call-up to the Cameroon national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Mauritius and Angola, according to Kicker.

Instead, the 19-year-old wants to use the international break to further establish himself at Bayer Leverkusen, whom he joined over the summer.

This is the second time Kofane has turned down the chance to represent his country.

In September, he also rejected a call-up in order to increase his chances of getting playing time at Leverkusen a decision that appears to have paid off.

So far, Kofane has featured nine times for Die Werkself, scoring three goals.

With Patrik Schick out injured, he has started two games in a row up front for Kasper Hjulmand’s team.
