Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has defended his decision to recall Leroy Sané to the national team.
In a surprise move, the 29-year-old, who joined Galatsaray from Bayern Munich last summer, has been included in the squad for the first time since June.
“It's about his profile," the Germany coach explained at a press conference on Monday.
“It would have been more difficult for him to be selected if we had six or seven players with his profile.”
Nagelsmann went on to make it clear that Sané has to perform to keep his place in the squad.
"I had a very good conversation with Leroy. He knows what I expect of him. He doesn't have countless chances to prove himself here anymore. I told him that quite openly.”
The coach added that Sané “has improved his returns in the Champions and the Süperlig, but he still needs to improve."
“Leroy knows what's required,” stressed Nagelsmann.
