Gruda withdraws from German U-21 squad due to knee problems

The former Mainz talent has had to drop out of the German U-21 squad with a knock.

Less than a week after the squad was announced, the German U-21 team he has suffered it's third setback.

According to the German Football Association (DFB), Brajan Gruda has left the squad early due to “persistent knee problems.”

The issue has plagued the 21-year-old since Brighton & Hove Albion's last Premier League match against Wolves. 

Hertha BSC's Linus Gechter and Aljoscha Kemlein of 1.FC Union Berlin had already been forced to leave with prior injuries.

Defensive duo Elias Baum and Kofi Amoako were nominated in their place, but there will likely be no third replacement for Gruda. 

Head coach Antonio di Salvo has decided not to call up a substitute for the time being before they face Greece on Friday evening.

That game is followed by a match in Northern Ireland on October 14. The European Championship finals will take place in 2027.
