Hürzeler on life in England: "They are pretty uninterested in the Bundesliga"
After winning promotion to the Bundesliga with FC St. Pauli, Fabian Hürzeler left the club this summer to become the new head coach of Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Hürzeler talks about life in England, where the Bundesliga doesn't seem to get much attention.
"They are pretty uninterested in the Bundesliga. When I turn on Union Berlin vs. St. Pauli on a Friday night, the place empties out relatively quickly," he said.
"It's the best league in the world, you play against the best players, the best teams, so the opposition can score at any moment. The individual quality is remarkable.
"The referee is more lenient and the crowd is very supportive. When there's good action, the crowd is strong and loud, then it can get really emotional.
“The fans don't sing all the time like in Germany, they just react a lot to the behavior on the field. But sometimes it's quiet. The fact that the referees let the ball flow more makes the game more intense, wilder, there are a lot of counterattacks.”
