Ilzer doesn’t rule out resignation amid rumours of Schicker dismissal

Hoffenheim head coach Christian Ilzer has fuelled speculation over a possible resignation amid ongoing turmoil at board level, following comments made at a press conference earlier today.

As reported earlier this week, Hoffenheim’s managing director of sport Andreas Schicker is facing potential dismissal over an alleged data protection breach. However, reports suggest the accusation is being viewed internally as a “fabricated” attempt to force Schicker out of the club’s management.

Given Schicker’s close working relationship with Ilzer, such a move could trigger significant changes in the dugout, despite Hoffenheim’s impressive performances on the pitch.

When asked about the situation, Ilzer did not rule out stepping down should Schicker be dismissed. “It’s possible. I can’t rule anything out. It depends on many factors, but I won’t discuss them publicly,” said the Austrian, who was appointed by Schicker in November 2024 and previously enjoyed success alongside him at Sturm Graz.

Attention in Kraichgau should be on Hoffenheim’s upcoming clash with Bayern and the Bundesliga top-four race. Instead, the club’s self-inflicted internal chaos is threatening to overshadow sporting matters.

Hoffenheim currently sit third in the Bundesliga table and are pushing for a first Champions League qualification since the 2018/19 season.
