Rumors that VfB Stuttgart's caretaker trainer Michael Wimmer would remain in charge if he secured his third straight win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday afternoon are now confirmed, even if the team ended up suffering a rather embarrassing loss. VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat spoke unequivocal words after the full-time whistle.

"I can say relatively clearly, we will not let today's scoreline factor into the decision, Mislintat, "We have decided, after observing the work and the approach during the week, to go with Michi Wimmer at least until the winter break."

Wimmer can presumably be considered a candidate for the permanent job. The only other remaining trainer linked with the position is Danish head-coach Jess Thorup is the only other name linked with the position. Earlier in the day, former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and current Ajax Amsterdam gaffer Alfred Schreuder took his name out of the running.

"Wimmer has done an excellent job," Mislintat added, "It's in Stuttgart's best interest to make a sound and smart decision very cleanly as the impressions settle in over the long winter break."
