Augsburg vs. Union Berlin preview: Can the Fuggerstädter end their winless run?

Relegation-threatened Augsburg will look to claim their first win since March 23 when they face Union Berlin on Saturday.

Augsburg

Augsburg played out a 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend (D4, L3), extending their winless run to seven games. An Elvis Rexhbeçaj own goal gave Frankfurt the lead, but Ermedin Demirović restored parity in the second half to ensure the spoils were shared.

With four matches to play, Augsburg are sitting in 13th place and are just three points clear of the bottom three. Before the end of the season, the Fuggerstädter will face Union and Borussia Dortmund in trick home matches, while they will go up against Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach in their final two away games.

Augsburg have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last nine games, highlighting the defensive improvement that is required if they are to move away from the drop zone. They can at least take confidence from the fact that they have scored in eight consecutive matches.
Team News

The hosts are without the services of Julian Baumgartlinger and Andre Hahn due to knee injuries. Augsburg are also unable to call upon Mërgim Berisha, Rafal Gikiewicz, Fredrik Jensen, Tobias Strobl, Iago and Nathanael Mbuku.

Union Berlin

Union are just four games away from qualifying for the Champions League, but they still have work to do if they are to secure their place in the top four.

After claiming a 1-0 away win over Gladbach, Union had to settle for a point in their home meeting with Bayer Leverkusen, as the two sides played out a goalless draw. The result left Urs Fischer’s side in third place, with two points separating them from RB Leipzig.

Union have struggled to consistently pick up victories in recent weeks, winning just three of their last 10 Bundesliga games (W5, L2).

Having failed to win their previous three top-flight away meetings with Augsburg (D1, L2), Union will be looking to claim their first Bundesliga away win over the Fuggerstädter this weekend.

Union have no fresh injury concerns, although Diogo Leite will miss out through suspension.
