Rolfes unfazed by Wirtz and Alonso transfer speculation

Bayer Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes insists he's not worried about rumors linking Florian Wirtz and Xabi Alonso with other clubs.
Florian Wirtz has reportedly attracted interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, with reports suggesting a move away from the Bayer Leverkusen youngster could be on the cards ahead of next year's European Championship in Germany.

However, Leverkusen's managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, doesn't expect the 20-year-old to be sold any time soon.

"Let's be honest - you can see how comfortable Florian feels here, the trust of the club and his surroundings give him stability. Florian is relaxed, his family and we are too - there is no better constellation for him than with us," Rolfes told Bild about the youngster, who is under contract until 2027, adding:

"No one needs to come for Florian now anyway. I can still see him with us after the European Championship."

Although Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso recently extended his contract until 2026, speculation about his future has continued, with Real Madrid seen as a likely destination for the Spaniard.

But, as with Wirtz, Rolfes insists he's not worried about the reports.

"No, I'm not worried. Xabi has extended his contract with us, he has brought his family to Germany and his decisions in the past have always been very serious," said Rolfes.

"Xabi feels totally comfortable here. I think he really appreciates the opportunities he has with us to be successful."

Bayer 04 will have the opportunity to reclaim first place from Bayern Munich with a win over Union Berlin later on Sunday.
