Hannover give defender Ezeh full backing after arrest
Second division side Hannover 96 opted to publish a statement expressing full public support for defender Brooklyn Ezeh after the 22-year-old was taken into police custody on Tuesday.
Hannover 96 fullback Brooklyn Ezeh, as initially reported by Germany's main sporting tabloid, was arrested on Tuesday following a violent incident on a German ICE train. Lower Saxon police later confirmed that the 22-year-old was taken into police custody. Independent confirmation about the arrest ("Sport Bild" reports that Ezeh assaulted other passengers, damaged a laptop, and even spat in the face of police officers during a physical confrontation) is still lacking at this time.
In any event, Ezeh's club has opted to express full support for the summer signing from newly promoted 2. Bundesliga side SV Wehen Wiesbaden. Ezeh's club released a statement that "extreme personal circumstances" had left the player operating under "considerable mental strain". Hannover went on to note that Ezeh's situation had led to "totally unbecoming and atypical behavior" that had already led to his withdraw from training prior to the incident.
The Lower Saxon club noted that Ezeh was receiving help from the organization's medical department for the "psychological problems" he is currently experiencing. H96 sporting director Marcus Mann himself noted that Ezeh enjoyed the full backing on the club in the official statement.
"Brooklyn will receive all the time he needs from us," Mann noted, "He can rest assured of our full support"
"Hannover 96 asks that, in the interest of protecting the player, sensitivity is exercised in the public eye," the statement concludes.
