Two years ago, Benjamin Pavard watched France play at the Euro 2016 in a fan zone in Lille. Last night, the VfB Stuttgart defender was on the pitch himself as 'Les Bleus' won the World Cup after beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.

It's safe to say that the 22-year-old has been on an incredible journey since he joined Stuttgart, who were playing in the 2. Bundesliga at the time, from Lille in 2016. And after yesterday's final, Pavard said that it is hard for him to fully realize what he has achieved.

"I've come out of nowhere. I don't think I really get it yet. When we get home, we will see the joy of the French people. That will be huge," Pavard told TF1 after the final and added:

"Two years ago, I was with my friends in a fan zone in Lille (during Euro 2016). A year ago, I played in the German second division."

"During the match, two or three minutes from the end, I shed some tears. It's something huge."

If you want to read more about Pavard, here are five facts you may not know about the young defender.

Corentin Halucha, one of Pavard's friends, recently posted a photo that was taken in the fan zone back in 2016:
