Dortmund's Jude Bellingham creates UEFA Champions League history

The 17-year-old has etched his name in history books after curling in his side's opener against Manchester City in the 2nd leg.

Jude Bellingham opened his Champions League account and struck home a wonderful curler to give Die Schwarzengleben some hope of qualifying to the semi-finals. However, Riyad Mahrez’s 55th minute penalty and Phil Foden’s goal, once again, put the next stage out of reach for the hosts as they crashed out 4-2 on aggregate.

Nevertheless, in scoring his first goal in the competition, the nifty teenager created history by becoming the youngest English footballer to ever score in the competition’s knockout stage at 17 years, 9 months and 17 days.

In doing so, Bellingham overtook the record set by Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, who scored in this season’s last 16 clash against Lazio – when he was just two days away from his 18th birthday.

He also became the second-youngest ever scorer in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage – just behind Bojan Krkic who scored when he was 72 days younger for Barcelona against Schalke in April 2008.

Barcelona’s Ansu Fati remains the competition’s youngest ever goal scorer (at 17 years & 40 days) when he netted the winner against Inter Milan in this season’s group stages.
