Werder Bremen has strengthened it's goalkeeping position once again with the arrival of Alexander Schlager from RB Salzburg.

As is customary for transfers completed by the northern Bundesliga club, the specific length of the contract has not been disclosed.

Despite Schlager's contract with RB Salzburg running until the summer of 2027, the transfer is free of charge for Bremen.

For the Austrian national team's World Cup goalkeeper, the move to Germany's topflight marks his first professional stint abroad.

At Bremen, the 30-time international is expected to compete directly with Karl Hein for the starting goalkeeper position.

"We are convinced that he will integrate very well into our team, both on and off the pitch," said Peter Niemeyer, Bremen's Head of Football.

"We are thus entering the season with a very strong goalkeeping team that will constantly challenge each other.

“That was our goal when considering this position. Like all the World Cup players, he will join the team after our training camp in the Zillertal”.
