"Ones to watch“ for Bundesliga Matchday 4

Good form, lucky match-up or just a special situation - here are five players you need to look out for on matchday 3 of the Bundesliga!

1.Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich)

You probably could have picked a whole list of Bayern players for this occasion - Kompany‘s team has been more than in form over the last few games! Bayern have scored 24(!) goals in just 5 games this season and one of them has come from Leroy Sané.

The German winger was in excellent form a year ago and many believed he was finally realising his full potential - instead, Sané has struggled a lot in the second half of the 2023/24 season and wasn’t able to be a game changing factor in Germany‘s Euros team.

But that wasn‘t just down to a bad run of games, Sané struggled with injuries over many games. That‘s why he has taken his time under Vincent Kompany and just rejoined the team on the pitch against Dinamo Zagreb - and he directly found the back of the net!

Bayern play against Werder Bremen on matchday 4 who are a tricky team for the Bavarians; they lost the last match against Ole Werner‘s team. However, just over a year ago, Sané was the main man in a 4-0 victory by Bayern against Bremen, scoring twice in the process. Sané will be eager to show the world that he‘s back to his best yet again.

2.Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt)

He was inches before moving to a European top club in the summer - and everybody can see why. Omar Marmoush is Frankfurt‘s brightest light in attack in this season so far, scoring three goals and assisting another 3. That means Marmoush has been directly involved in 66.6% of Frankfurt‘s goals this season!

In their latest game against Wolfsburg the Egyptian striker was able to score a brace and help his team to a 2-1 victory. Now they’re up against Gladbach who‘ve has a mixed start into the season. Tim Kleindienst and Kevin Stöger have been great additions to Gerardo Seoane‘s side, but an in-form Omar Marmoush, who also has a great relationship and understanding with strike partner Hugo Ekitike, might just be too much to handle for them this weekend.

3.Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen)

Similar to Leroy Sané at Bayern, it was incredibly difficult to pick out a player from this great Leverkusen side. Even though they‘ve lost their unbeaten streak against Leipzig two weeks ago, they‘ve been performing to the highest level possible - while also having fun on the pitch.

One player that personifies this kind of class and fun in Leverkusen‘s game is their striker Victor Boniface. He got his first two goals of the season last week against Hoffenheim, but what stood out and made him get into this list was his pre-assist against Feyenoord in the Champions League during the week - if you haven‘t seen the game, do yourself a favour and watch the highlights just for this moment!

Leverkusen are playing against Wolfsburg on matchday 4, who got beaten by Frankfurt a week prior. While Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl definetly brought some energy into his team, they‘ve had a difficult start into the season, playing and losing against Bayern and Freiburg and only winning against newly promoted Kiel.

If Leverkusen show up how they have in the last few games, their is little to no hope for almost any team to beat them. Let‘s see if Victor Boniface takes another step into becoming one of Europe‘s best strikers - maybe even by performing new tricks on the pitch.

4.Fabian Rieder (VfB Stuttgart)

This list always need at least one „hot take“ as a prediction for the upcoming matchday and this one might be it: Stuttgart are playing Dortmund this weekend and they definetly have a bigger chance to win this game than many would believe!

Stuttgart might have been beaten by Real Madrid during the week in the Champions League, but this game could have easily gone the other way. They not only outperformed the current Champions League champions, they actually created enough chances to win this game 3-1 themselves.

Fabian Rieder has emerged as a fine creative player, who‘s helped Stuttgart in creating a lot of chances with his technical abilities. In last win against Gladbach, Rieder was able to provide two assists for his team. One should also mention that his set pieces always create trouble in the opponents box!

While Dortmund have had a great start to the season, this feels like their first big challenge - let‘s see who comes out on top.

Chukwubuike Adamu (SC Freiburg)

Remember the name! While Adamu hasn‘t been a new transfer this summer, but the one a year ago, he feels like a brand new addition to Julian Schuster‘s Freiburg team. The Austrian already had some small moments of brilliance in Christian Streich‘s last season in the Bundesliga, but now he really is getting into form.

4 goals and 1 assist this season even helped him into getting back into the Austrian National team! Adamu is looking to break through in the 2024/25 campaign - and currently there‘s nothing standing in his way of achieving anything exactly that.

Freiburg play against Heidenheim, who, deservedly so, got a lot of praise for their brilliant start into the season. Even their 2-4 loss against Dortmund should not be looked at as a disappointment. But in the „game of underdogs“ Freiburg might just have the edge - thanks to Adamu.
