There has been speculation about whether Niko Kovač will remain Borussia Dortmund’s coach for the 2026/27 season.
However, despite occasional criticism of the Croatian coach’s playing style, BVB sporting managing director Lars Ricken has now made it clear once and for all that Kovač will remain in charge.
“Yes. Absolutely. Without him, we wouldn’t be in second place, because first, he has really strengthened the team, and second, he led us into the Champions League last season,” Ricken told Sport Bild.
“Had we not achieved that, it would have had massive consequences for the squad,” added Ricken, who also said Kovač “fits wonderfully” into the club.
Kovač’s contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until the summer of 2027.
