Stuttgart’s winning start to the new year ended with a 1-1 draw at home against Union Berlin. Chris Führich seemed to be the matchwinner until substitute Jeong Woo-yeong denied his former club. Union Berlin were the much better side in terms of creating clear-cut chances.

“Right now, we’re disappointed with the result,” said Sebastian Hoeneß after his team missed out on going third. “We started the game well, had momentum, and a few chances. Unfortunately, we were too careless with them, even if we did manage to score the important opening goal.

“After that, we weren’t able to keep our composure. And the opposite was true as the game remained wide open. Union showed how stable they are and why they’re having a good season.”

Stuttgart collected seven points since the Bundesliga restarted last week. They will face another midweek fixture in the Europa League before matchday 19 in the Bundesliga as they play away against AS Roma and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the space of four days.
