After his move to Bayer Leverkusen collapsed in late August of 2024, midfielder Tyler Morton gave insights into the failed Bundesliga transfer.

“I talked with [Xabi] Alonso on FaceTime, which was incredible for me. To be able to talk to someone I idolized so much as a child.

"I used to go to the park with my dad and practice long passes, trying to imitate what Xabi did. But Liverpool decided I should stay.

“I didn't get as much playing time as I would have liked, but it was an incredible season for the club,” the 23-year-old told RedsFrance.

Morton was on the verge of joining Leverkusen in 2024. A deal was close to completion, but Martin Zubimendi's rejection of Liverpool ended negotiations at the last minute.

In the end, the Englishman made a €15million move to Olympique Lyon – he has made 14 Ligue 1 appearances providing a goal and an assist.
