Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Julien Duranville will undergo surgery via a club statement released this afternoon.

A final medical investigation was carried out on the Belgian's shoulder and subsequently Dortmund's worst fears were confirmed.

The injury was sustained during a clash with Fran Garcia in the Ruhrpott club's FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final with Real Madrid.

“It's very frustrating that Julien injured his shoulder in such an unfortunate incident,” said BVB's sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

"We all worked together successfully on his physical stability last season – which makes this setback all the more bitter.

"Nevertheless, we remain positive and optimistic, because Julien is an outstanding talent.

"We will manage his recovery process and subsequent reintegration as best as possible," Kehl added.
