Expectations were high when Nico Schulz joined Borussia Dortmund from Hoffenheim for €25 million in 2019, but the left-back never really got going at Signal Iduna Park.

After more than a year without making a single appearance for Dortmund, he was finally released in the summer of 2023.

Now, Schulz has finally found a new club, with Turkish second division side MKE Ankaragücü confirming a two-year deal for the former Germany international.

The 31-year-old hasn't only had problems on the pitch, but also off it. In June 2022, he was charged with physical abuse following allegations made by his ex-partner.

The court ordered Schulz to pay €150,000 in charitable donations, with €30,000 going to women's rights organizations.

Before the trial, Schulz made a payment to his ex-partner - a so-called victim-offender settlement.
