Germany's Euro 2024 campaign came to an end when the hosts lost 2-1 to eventual winners Spain in the quarterfinals.

The Germans screamed for a penalty in extra time when Jamal Musiala's shot struck Marc Cucurella's hand, but referee Anthony Taylor waved away their protests.

Toni Kroos has now shared his thoughts on the controversial incident on his podcast 'Einfach mal Luppen'.

"I didn't even see it in the game. I wasn't able to see that it was a relatively clear handball. That means you're not so angry with the referee at that moment because you can't see it yourself," Kroos said.

"Of course I looked at the referee. He was of the opinion that he didn't even have to look at it, or the video referee was of the opinion to tell him: You don't have to look at it, it's not a handball," added the now-former Germany international, who was frustrated when he took a closer look at the incident after the final whistle.

"I only got angry when I saw it after the game," Kroos said.

“In retrospect, of course, it's bitter when you see the whole result or the importance of a goal at the time. In the end we just had to accept it.”
