Bayern Munich got the three points they were looking for as they beat Werder Bremen 2-1 at the Weserstadion on Saturday to move four points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table.

Speaking after the game, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel said he was delighted with the performance and the win.

"I'm happy that we won and I'm happy with the result. It was a deserved win and we played with confidence except for the last five minutes. We could have taken a bigger lead earlier in the game," said Tuchel.

"Now we have two days to relax before we prepare for Schalke. There's good character in the team. Now it's a matter of maintaining our lead in the standings.

Serge Gnabry, who scored the opener, said there was plenty of joy in the dressing room after the important win.

"It's a very important win. We knew it would be a good weekend if we won. But we also knew it wasn't going to be an easy game. There was a lot of joy in the dressing room," Gnabry said.

"We did our job and gave ourselves a bit of a buffer. We want to win again next week against Schalke. The goal we conceded came out of nowhere. It was tense at the end, but we defended well and deserved to win. The pressure is on. We've dropped too many points in the last few weeks. Now we have to keep it up."

Borussia Dortmund can narrow the gap to Bayern down to one point if they beat Wolfsburg later today.
