Following the announcement that Thomas Tuchel will be stepping down as head coach this summer, Bayern Munich are now looking for a replacement.

According to Sky Germany, Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is seen as the clear top candidate by the German champions.

The former Bayern player has worked wonders since taking over at Leverkusen in October 2022, and his side currently sit top of the Bundesliga, eight points clear of the Bavarians.

Former Bayern technical director Michael Reschke said in an interview last month that the Bavarians were keen to hire the Spaniard as sporting director when his playing career ended in 2017.

However, the Spaniard had other plans and went on to coach at youth level, first at Real Madrid and later at Real Sociedad, before joining Leverkusen.

His contract with Leverkusen expires in 2026, but it's questionable whether he'll stay that long, with Liverpool also reportedly interested in hiring him.
