Schalke 04 have announced that Guido Burgstaller has left the club to join FC St. Pauli.

Burgstaller, whose Schalke contract was due to expire in 2022, has joined the 2. Bundesliga side on a permanent deal.

"Guido Burgstaller gave 100 per cent every time he played for Schalke 04. In terms of commitment and willingness, Guido remains a real role model," said Schalke head of sport Jochen Schneider in a statement.

"He likely would have seen limited playing time this season, which is why we arrived at a mutual decision, together with Guido, that will see him join FC St. Pauli. We thank him for his efforts at Schalke and wish him all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch."

The 31-year-old old striker scored 32 goals in 119 games for ' The Royal Blues'.
