Bayern trio set formidable Champions League records after 4-1 victory over Lazio
Lewandowski, Musiala and Kimmich all went on to etch themselves in Champions League history during the victory in the Italian capital in the 1st leg.
Bayern München’s 4-1 victory over Lazio in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 1st leg saw three of Bayern’s first team players register unprecedented records in the competition. Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, 17-year-old Jamal Musiala & versatile defender Joshua Kimmich grab up impressive records.
Lewandowski became the Champions League’s third highest goalscorer, overtaking Real Madrid legend Raul’s tally of 71 goals. He opened Bayern’s books with a 9th minute strike after capitalizing on Mateo Musacchio’s sloppy pass. The goal took him to 72 goals in 95 appearances in the competition – scoring 17 times for Dortmund and registering 55 goals for the Bavarians.
His 72 goals take him right behind Lionel Messi who has 119 goals and Cristiano Ronaldo who has found the net 134 times.
Teenage sensation Jamal Musiala scored Bayern’s second goal and himself set two splendid achievements, becoming the youngest English player ever to score in the Champions League and also youngest to score for a German club in the tournament.
Furthermore, Bayern counterpart Joshua Kimmich won his 38th match of the competition after the staggering victory in Rome. That is as many victories as any player in Champions League history after 50 matches, taking over Thomas Muller and Casemiro’s previous record of 36 wins.
