Dino Toppmöller has left open whether Michael Zetterer will remain Eintracht Frankfurt’s first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

However, he has backed the 30-year-old to continue between the posts at least until the winter break.

“Making such a long-term prediction wouldn’t be responsible. The plan for now is that he will guard our goal until the winter. We deal with our goalkeepers - like every player - openly and honestly,” Toppmöller told Kicker.

Although Kauã Santos has temporarily lost his spot to Zetterer, Toppmöller remains confident in the 22-year-old’s potential.

“We still believe that Kauã Santos can become a top goalkeeper. The idea was always that he would be our number one. Zetti knew that when he joined us. But we operate according to performance. Zetti radiates calm and security, which we needed after a difficult period," he said.
