Laimer among 14 Bundesliga stars in Austria's squad for 2026 World Cup

The Austrian national team heading to the World Cup boasts an squad studded with past and present Bundesliga talents.

Ralf Rangnick has announced his 26-man Austrian squad for their trip to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

In total, Austria's squad is comprised of 14 current Bundesliga stars, equating to 53.85 percent of the total panel of players.

Among them, Bayern Munich's Konrad Laimer is joined by Borussia Dortmund duo Carney Chukwuemeka and Marcel Sabitzer.

RB Leipzig enjoy the strongest representation with three in the form of Nicolas Seiwald, Christoph Baumgartner and Xaver Schlager.

Meanwhile, a Werder Bremen pair of Marco Friedl and Romano Schmid join them, however Marco Grüll has missed out completely.

Mainz are also a key component of the Austrian set-up with Philipp Mwene present, alongside the club's loanee defender Stefan Posch.

Finally, TSG Hoffenheim's Alexander Prass, FC Augsburg's Michael Gregoritsch, SC Freiburg's Philipp Leinhart and VfL Wolfsburg's Patrick Wimmer round off the list. 

Other former Bundesliga stars are involved too, with David Alaba, Kevin Danso, Paul Wanner, Marco Arnautovic, Florian Grillitsch, Sasa Kalajdzic and Alessandro Schöpf all involved.
