Watzke to step down as Dortmund boss in 2025

Hans-Joachim Watzke will leave his position as CEO of Borussia Dortmund in 2025.

Long-time Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has announced his decision to step down from his role with the Black and Yellows at the end of 2025, when his contract expires.

"I will not be extending my contract. I will step down from the management in the fall of next year," Watzke told the German press at Dortmund's training camp in Marbella.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Watzke's future departure with a short statement.

"Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the Management Board of Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA, has informed the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board of Borussia Dortmund Geschäftsführungs-GmbH, chaired by President Dr. Reinhold Lunow, that he will not extend his current contract as managing director, which runs until the end of 2025, and will step down from the management in the fall of 2025," the statement read.

Watkze, 64, has been CEO of Borussia Dortmund since 2005.
