Official: Bremen sign Köhn on loan with purchase option

SV Werder Bremen have officially confirmed the signing of former FC Bayern München academy man Derrick Köhn on loan.  A loan fee and purchase option are part of the deal.

Derrick Köhn's rumored move back to German football has been officially confirmed. The 25-year-old arrives in the Hanseatic city-state on loan from Galatasaray Istanbul. The Turkish side revealed that they had received a €400,000 loan fee for their player. Additionally, there is a purchase option of just over €5 million built into the deal.

Köhn can play as a wingback on both flanks. With Felix Agu and Mitchell Weiser firmly entrenched on both sides, it appears as if the former FC Bayern campus product will initially serve as a back-up. SV trainer Ole Werner and club licensing head Peter Niemeyer nevertheless spoke on the importance of Köhn's position in their comments accompanying the deal.

“We've now filled our vacancy on the wing with Derrick, and we're delighted about that," Niemeyer said, "Derrick has gained international experience through his time in the Netherlands and Turkey, which he can bring to us. He also made a name for himself with strong performances in the second division at Hannover 96. We are very happy that we were able to capture him.”

“Derrick can play several positions on the left flank," Werner added, "He has good pace and a good understanding of the game. As a defensive player in Hannover, he has a good rate of goals and assists. We are sure that he will enrich our squad with his qualities.”

“Werder is the right step for me to continue my development at a very good level in the Bundesliga," Köhn himself said, "The talks with Ole Werner, [squad planner] Johannes Jahns, and Peter Niemeyer have convinced me and I'm really looking forward to my time at Werder.”
